donates R56 000
to dog shelter
B
ytes Document Solutions (BDS) has donated over
R56 000 to Barking Mad Dogtown, a rehabilitation
centre for dogs who have been abused and aban-
doned, or are considered ‘difficult’ to home.
This contribution was a result of a fundraising pro-
ject that the Xerox direct team embarked on during its
recent annual sales conference. Last year the team un-
dertook a similar event where it raised over R72 000 for
the Randburg SPCA. BDS has always had a strong social
conscience and has a history of community involvement
through which it aims to provide support to worthwhile
projects and organisations in order to make a real differ-
ence to socio-economic challenges.
This year the theme was ‘Save a dog’s life’ and Bark-
ing Mad Dogtown was the animal-welfare organisation
chosen as the deserving recipient. BarkingMad Dogtown
is a superior rehabilitation centre where each dog re-
ceives quality care, food, veterinary treatment, housing,
comfort, exercise and stimulation. There is a retirement
village for long-term residents and a special rehabilitation
section for dogs that have lost their faith in humanity. If
suitable homes cannot be found for the dogs, they remain
at the shelter for life. Through its sponsored ‘Click to Feed’
initiative, Barking Mad also donates food to other needy
animals countrywide.
‘We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Bytes
Document Solutions employees and clients,’ said Pat
Barr-Sanders, fundraiser, Barking Mad Dogtown, ‘This
sort of donation does not come along every day and we
could not be happier. The money has also come at a very
crucial time for us. This donation will be put towards vet
and food bills, as well as bringing us one step closer to
acquiring our own property.
‘Our goal is to buy our own 20 hectare property, which
will also put us in a position to create career job oppor-
tunities for caregivers, behaviourists and trainers. With
more of this type of corporate support, we would be able
to build the most extraordinary rehabilitation centre in Af-
rica, enabling us to save more dogs, from more places,
more often.’
‘The BDS team was delighted that it could raise this
amount of cash for an organisation that is doing such im-
portant work with dogs. We recognise that when times
are hard and people’s resources are stretched thin, many
animals end up in shelters, which are already under finan-
cial pressure. It’s a privilege for Bytes Document Solutions
to be able to assist Dogtownwith additional funds for the
exceptional services it provides,’ said Johan Basson, CEO
of Bytes Document Solutions.
A
imed at print service providers that want to use
web-to-print to extend their offering and reach new
markets, Asanti StoreFront 2.2 incorporates a num-
berofnewfeaturesthatopenituptoanevenwidergroup
of printing companies and end-users.
Asanti StoreFront was designed for Sign & Display
printing companies who want to extend their service
offering and/or reach new markets. New features have
been added that further professionalize the system:
• Easy automation. Nomatter whichworkflowor RIP
the printer has, StoreFront can now automatically export
order data to the prepress workflow, making it easy to
access the content that needs to be printed in order to
fulfil orders. Print service providers who do not have an
Agfa Graphics workflow can automate order handling by
having StoreFront export all order data to their FTP-server.
• PayPal Express Checkout. Express Checkout is a
global payment gateway that makes it easy and afford-
able to add online payment to web-to-print stores. Users
of the web store can pay using popular credit cards or
their PayPal account. On the other hand, printers can eas-
ily set up Express Checkout without a high activation cost
or expensive monthly fees.
• Approval groups and self-registration. Companies
who require all orders in a store to be approved can now
create groups of users and assign one or more order ap-
provers to each group. This makes it easier for print ser-
vice providers to offer their B2B web-to-print service to
large companies with multiple divisions or subsidiaries.
In such stores, users can now also self-register. This low-
ers the overhead in administrating the user base of large
stores.
Other new features include auto-fill forms based on
profile data and previous orders, and customorder IDs for
easy categorisation.
‘Agfa Graphics has always promoted open standards
and focuses on easy integration of its products with other
solutions. This is also true for our web-to-print solutions
which can be used with any production workflow or RIP,’
said Andy Grant, Head of Software Agfa Graphics.
All the features in Asanti StoreFront 2.2 are also
available in Apogee StoreFront 2.2, allowing our grow-
ing number of commercial printers that use the Apogee
StoreFront solution access to the sameweb-to-print inter-
face with their customers.
As cloud-based solutions, both Apogee StoreFront
and Asanti StoreFront offer a fast and affordable entry
into the web-to-print market. The tight integration with
Agfa Graphics’ production workflow systems saves time
and avoids double data entry.

anaged Print Services allows businesses the ad-
vantage of increasing efficiencies, while reduc-
ing cost. The overall cost reduction is evident in
the short termand sustainable long term, with even great
cost reduction rewards. Managed Print Services also
identifies all the hidden printing cost, and eliminates un-
necessary costs printing costs for further cost reduction.

throughManaged Print Services, would design a custom-
ised savings plan to help businesses clearly identify these
savings.

lows IT employees to focus on other important business
needs as your printing fleet will be effortlessly ensured
for successful printing hassle free. Research indicates
that globally, a total of 40 percent of the calls that are
put through to the IT desk are printer/copiers related
enquiries. Printing fleets require continuous monitoring
to uncover additional cost-reduction opportunities for the
business.Thisfleetmonitoringprocessrequiresthatprint-
ing fleets are changed overtime.
The initial fleet optimisation includes: hardware,
services and supplies installation or redeployment to con-
solidate devices, to ensure maximum productivity, while
lowering operating costs for the business. With remote
monitoring, supplies and services are automatically dis-
patched to the business location where they are needed;
this increases productivity and decreases downtime.
