Vol 4 Issue 4 • MAKING IMAGES ONE LAYER AT A TIME
Making images
one layer at a time
Printing is the process of making images, usually on a substrate, and usually two-dimensionally.
However, there is a new phenomenon in the realm of printing – 3D Printing. This is creating a
three-dimensional image created using many layers of plastic filament to build the final product.
The process is like printing in that the filament is in a molten state at the time it is laid down.
3D printing has, however, come under attack for being misnamed in that it is often more
like a manufacturing process rather than printing in the true sense.
