nca Digital has announced the launch of the Inca On-
set R40LT wide-format, flatbed UV printer. Since the
initial Onset launch in 2007, the range of high-end,
high productivity Onset printers have set the benchmark
in print quality through their use of a full-width array of
printheads, eliminating banding. With the launch of the
newOnset R40LT today Inca nowmakes this high level of
print quality available to companies looking to invest in a
standard mid-range machine.
The Onset R40LT’s ability to develop from a four-col-
our, 265sqm/hr device up to an eight-colour fully speci-
fied device in the field gives users a highly flexible printer
that can grow with their business, whilst protecting their
investment for the long-term. The Onset R40LT is a more
future-proof and accessible option for companies consid-
ering a standard mid-range digital flatbed machine, as it
is a full-width array printer that guarantees high quality
results with no banding at higher throughput speeds than
scanning head technology.
The Onset R40LT model can start as a manual 3.14 x
1.6mfull-widtharrayflatbedprinterinachoiceoffour,five
or six colours and is capable of 265sqm/hr print speeds on
substrates up to 50mm thick - equivalent to 40 full-beds
sheets/hr. The newOnset R40LT printer has all the intelli-
gent design features of the existing Onset R40i, including
14 picolitre FujifilmDimatix Spectra printheads, a 15-zone
vacuum table, a UV sensor system and mechanical sub-
strate height detectors, all of whichmaintain productivity,
quality and reliability.
Based on the dynamic Onset Scaleable Architecture
platform, the Onset Series now features a choice of 18
different models and three different handling systems to
allow companies to tailor the best printer with the best
combination of productivity, quality and ink options for
their business.

kom research for its Sustainability rating.

Germiston schools catch polystyrene recycling fever!

chools in Germiston and surrounding areas are
proving to be dynamic eco-warriors with their fe-
vert commitment to recycling. During the past few
months, no less than nine schools have partnered with
the Polystyrene Packaging Council (PSPCP) to recycle food
packaging items made from polystyrene.
Laerskool Germiston Primary, Elsburg Primary and
OnsArkNurserywerethefirstschoolstoreceivespecially
marked bins from the PSPC for the collection of breadtags
(used for the Breadtags for Wheelchairs project), and
yoghurt tubs and plastic cutlery that get recycled for the
Tutu Desk project. Since then, six more schools in the
area have joined them in their collection efforts, namely:
Sonshine Kids, Tic Toc, Ladybird, Teddie Bear, Ducktails,
Happy Kids.
‘Our schools have well and truly caught the recycling
bug!’ Teresa Botes of Ons Ark Nursery School laughingly
admits.
‘The kids and parents are passionate about making a
difference in the lives of people who are less fortunate
through the simple act of recycling. It is wonderful to
know that we are preventingwaste fromgoing to landfill,
while at the same time helping somebody “purchase” a
wheelchair or get a lapdesk that will be used for school
work in areaswhere there is a dire need for schools desks
on which to work,’ she said.
AccordingtoAdriSpangenberg,adrectorofthePSPC,
Germiston is fast becoming one of the shining examples
of areas of successful recycling communities, thanks to
the involvement of local schools and recycling companies
suchasRemadeRecyclingwhoarewillingtopartnerwith
local schools, organisations and individual collectors.
‘Polystyrene is a highly recyclable material that is
used for a variety of different applications – ranging from
picture frames to seedling trays. However, due to the fact
that the material is made of 80 percent air, it is very light
in weight. Recycling collectors are therefore understand-
ably hesistant to collect the material from households as
they will in effect be transporting air! We therefore have
to partner with schools and communities who are willing
to collect large amounts of the material for us, in order to
make it worthwhile for collectors to pick it up and take it
away for recycling.’
