At the show, Canon presented interesting facts to support the fact that printing
is very much alive and growing. What became apparent is the fact that printing is
still the preferred communications medium and will continue to be for some time.
You can read the results of the survey in the article ‘How important is print in
today’s society’ written by Jo Lloyd who was present at the show and explained
the facts to visitors to the Canon stand.
Information formed the basis of the presentations on the Canon stand, even
when the main topic was equipment, productivity and all manner of technological
discussions. This was because Canon South Africa, through its close connection
to Canon Europe had many of the leading European demonstrators and experts
on its stand to discuss the various offerings. According to Geoff Hobbin, European
business development manager for professional print, for Canon Europe, this
access to the most knowledgeable people with Canon Europe meant that South
African customers were never faced with the response, ‘We will get that
information for you.’
He commented, ‘The South African market is an important one for us at Canon.
This was the reason that we commissioned the survey and it is also the reason
we have brought some of our top people from Europe to explain our technology to
South African customers. We have found that potential customers respond better
to qualified people who can answer their questions. Nothing irritates a potential
customer more than being told the information will be sent later. Our European
staff came to South Africa to assist customers at the show and to train the local
South African staff, both technical and sales.’
Canon also presented its Essential Business Builder Program to complement its
professional print solutions. This is a suite of tools, workshops and consultancy
designed to bring increased success to the customer’s business. The program will
give printers the skills and tools to make their businesses more successful.
Despite the focus on information, the Canon stand at Fespa Africa was also
about the technology. Here too, Canon set itself apart by having the worldwide
launch of the ImagePress C800/C700 digital colour press. The device combines
high image quality with powerful productivity. The ImagePress C800/C700
features a 32 beam vertical cavity surface emitting laser unit with multi-exposure
technology which achieves 2400 x 2400dpi resolution. This technology also
allows operators to choose from a selection of available screen patterns.
The ImagePress C800/C700 also features auto correct colour tone for multi-
dimensional mixed colour calibration. This allows for colour adjustments to be
made with a wider colour gamut and ensures colour quality of the highest level.
The ImagePress C800/C700 also uses Canon’s new toner which deliver higher
quality print at faster speeds.
The ImagePress C800/C700 can be configured with one of three workflow
options allowing users to select the workflow which best meets their
production requirements.
It is not only in the workflow where the ImagePress C800/C700 can be configured
to meet the needs of the user. It is a completely modular system which allows
users to add a range of finishing functions. Not only that, but additional modules
can be added as the demands on the system expand. This means that customers
can purchase the standard model and later incorporate everything from a paper
folder through to a booklet trimmer or from a high capacity stacker through to a
perfect binder. These features make the Canon ImagePress C800/C700 a highly
versatile and productive digital press.
In addition, a full range of Canon colour, black-and-white and wide-format
printers and devices was also demonstrated on the stand. The Oce Arizona
Series of large-format printers joined the ColorWave 650 wide-format printer
addressing the needs of customers with bigger print requirements. Canon also
showed its plotting and proofing devices. For the black-and-white market,
Canon showed the Oce VarioPrint range of devices in a spread of sizes
and configurations.
Canon has a range of solutions to meet the needs of all sectors of the market.
